On April 5th Scott Phillips and I completed a comprehensive 96hr Wilderness First Responder Course at the Salem YWam campus. Ultimately we responded to 20 critical injury scenarios from emergency childbirth to someone shot in the chest, evisceration and sucking chest wounds, hypoglycemic, flailed chest, assorted fractures, hypothermia, etc. We also learned a lot about improvising treatments in the wilderness setting, reducing dislocations, and mass casualty events. The training ended with a hectic all-night mass casualty event in the woods west of Falls City. We were initially sent on a SAR for teenagers who's car made a wrong turn, ultimately we responded to three critical victims in a ravine, a plane crash (complete with a plane fuselage in the woods) a heart attack and evacuation of victims about a mile back to command post.
